Theaster Gates
Prompt 1: Theaster Gates has us look at life in a different perspective. Something ordinary can become extraordinary. Find an object in your home that you are comfortable turning into a work of art and beautify it. What was the object before you tampered with it? What changes did you make to make it just more special?
Prompt 2: Community is a strong theme for Theaster Gates. From connecting with his art or creating Artist Retreats, he is always finding a way to connect with his community. What is one thing you would love to do for your community? Creatively express what this is and why you would do it.
Prompt 3: Theaster Gates encourages us to look at things we normally wouldn’t look at. What is one thing you feel should become more popular and well known? Would it be on the mainstream media or would it be something that is known like traditional storytelling by word of mouth? Use your creativity and craft to share what that thing would be and why it deserves to be more well known.

You could visually show us the feel of the music you imagine, or by making the music itself. You could also find some sounds and mix them together. What is your theme song?

One of the biggest questions that he asks that surrounds that theme is “What is Art?” What is a piece of work that you know about but others do not consider it art? Why is it art to you?
