About Armory Art Together Spring 2024: Artmaking inspired by Location
This semester the Park Avenue Armory Youth Corps will embark on a new iteration of Armory Art Together inspired by the Drill Hall Production Illinoise, scored with compositions from Sufjan Stevens’ concept album “Illinois” and story by Justin Peck and Jackie Sibblies Drury. Stevens’ concept album uses each piece to reference events, places and people related to the state of Illinois.
Inspired by this idea of creating work inspired by the stories that occur in space, over the next four weeks, Youth Corps will create work around a space or spaces that feel important to them. Throughout Armory Art Together, the creative prompts will begin with sensing the space and then develop into storytelling, mythologizing, memory, and speaking to a space. Additionally, we will continue our use of discord and livestream Wednesdays to build creative community. Additionally, with Discord, we will include channels for Youth Corps to share photos and memories of their favorite spaces along with their work that may be inspired by it.
